I Just Love It launches series of Thunderbirds books

0

Personalised gifting group I Just Love It has recently launched a new series of personalised Thunderbirds books, seven in all.
Each of the seven books feature different collections of the original 1960s and 1970s comic book strips along with classic artwork from Franky Bellamy, Eric Eden, Graham Bleathman, John Cooper and Frank Hampson, with content from creator Gerry Anderson.

To turn each of these collector’s items into unique keepsakes for any recipient, the hardback edition books can be personalised with a name which is embossed on the front cover.

The title page of the book features a name as well as a personal message and the book itself is presented inside a special Thunderbirds gift box.

The softback books feature a name on the front cover and in the header of every internal page, as well as a name on the title page, alongside a personal message.

Kevin Sears, Ecommerce Director at Gifts Hub observed,  “Thunderbirds was a must-watch programme in every household, and the comics were incredibly sought after when first published for many 60s and 70s children.”

“The release of this new personalised range makes each book an ideal keepsake for any nostalgic fan, and allows older generations to pass their memories from childhood onto a younger audience,” he added.

Pokémon Company and Niantic unleash a raft of updates for AR mobile games

0

In their effort to keep Pokémon GOs sizable 65 million worldwide player base on board and find new recruits who didn’t get hooked last summer, developer Niantic and The Pokémon Company have come out with a number of new updates for their groundbreaking AR mobile game.

A new Gyms update, which is available now on the App Store and Google Play, makes ownership more collaborative and encourages all players to visit friendly gyms and engage with them in new ways.

A spinable Photo Disc similar to PokéStops that can distribute new items has been added to the update. Players can now earn gym badges that they can level up for more rewards and bonus items.

In addition, each new gym now holds up to six Pokémon and players battle Pokémon in the order in which they were assigned to a gym, instead of fighting them from weakest to strongest.

A new motivation system is also featured in the gyms update that sees Pokémon lose motivation over time or whenever they are defeated thus temporarily lowering their maximum combat power.

However, any player from the same team can feed berries to a gym’s Pokémon to lift their motivation.

The game’s second major new update is Battle Raids, a cooperative social gameplay experience where players can team up with others nearby and work together in timed in-game events to defeat extremely powerful Pokémon known as Raid Bosses.

Private Raid groups can also be created via a customizable code system that lets players invite their friends to a specific Raid group.

The updates follow the addition of new features earlier this year that included 80 new pocket monsters. Prior to that update, the IP launched sponsored gyms in late 2016 that saw approximately 7,800 Starbucks stores across the US turn into PokéStops

As for other new extensions, Niantic’s first live Pokémon GO event, Pokémon GO Fest, will unfold in Grant Park Chicago on July 22.

Spin Master launches popular toy brands in China

Toronto-based toy and entertainment company Spin Master has launched its popular Hatchimals and PAW Patrol brands in China.

China’s multi-billion-dollar toys and games market is the second-largest in the world, and this expansion is the latest move in Spin Master’s ongoing growth strategy. Moving forward, the company will expand all of its core brands throughout China.

Both PAW Patrol and Hatchimals products will be available in China next month in 137 Toys R Us stores, along with full market support at top online retailers as well as department store chains.

Hatchimals toy eggs that hatch to reveal their inner colorful creatures debuted in October and went on to be the hit toy of the holiday season. The brand has since expanded into the collectibles category with Hatchimals Colleggtibles.

Pre-school brand PAW Patrol is also a top performer for Spin Master. Gross Q1 product sales for the company’s pre-school and girls segment went up 6.6% to US$84.7 million, driven largely by PAW Patrol.

The animated series PAW Patrol was also recently renewed by US-based Nickelodeon where it reigns as the top pre-school show across all TV (from December 26 to April 30). The Spin Master-produced series will be getting a fifth season consisting of 26 new half-hour episodes.

The move comes as companies like Mattel focus on accelerating growth in China. While Mattel experienced a disappointing fiscal first quarter, the toymaker reported a 19% net sales increase in the Asia-Pacific region.

In another story, Penguin Random House Children’s UK recently picked up world publishing rights (excluding North America) for the property.

The three-year publishing program will build the Hatchimals world with fiction, activity formats and a collector’s guide.
