Licensees Fashion U.K. and Global Licensing get into a merger agreement

In order to help extend the reach of both businesses, Licensees Fashion U.K. and Global Licensing have entered into a merger agreement.

By the strength of the agreement, both the companies will benefit from additional resources, efficiency and infrastructure.

The agreement also comes at a time when exponential growth for Fashion U.K. will assist the company in its goal to be one of the leading licensed suppliers and a preferred supplier at retail.

Fashion U.K. is an apparel and footwear licensee that currently holds more than 50 different licenses for top brands such as Shopkins, Pokémon, Minecraft, Pusheen, Trolls, Ben 10, Sesame Street and Paddington among many others.

Most recently, the licensee signed on to create a clothing range for M&Co inspired by Dinosaur Roar! The company will also bring Harlem Globetrotters fashion to the high street.

Global Licensing is also a U.K.-based apparel licensee that serves the U.K. high street, fashion independents and mass market retailers.

The company currently holds the rights to a host of brands from companies including Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, BBC Worldwide, King, Sesame Workshop, King Features, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and WWE, among others.

 

Smiley teams up with Zara for children’s apparel collection

Smiley has teamed up with retailer Zara for the launch of a new children’s apparel collection.

Having earlier worked together on successful Zara Baby, Zara Woman and Zara Trafaluc ranges, the new deal will see Smiley tap into the kids wear market.

The collection features jersey t-shirts, crew neck jumpers, jogging bottoms and more, all featuring the Smiley World branding.

“After many years of collaborations, we are very happy to still see Smiley growing at Zara,” said Nicolas Loufrani, CEO of Smiley.

Smiley and Zara’s latest range is available online and in stores also.

 

Quaker Oats Company appoints Brand Central as its licensee

PepsiCo’s Quaker Oats Company has appointed Brand Central to extend the Cap’n Crunch cereal brand into select merchandise and food categories.

“Brand Central has strong experience extending food and beverage brands into new product categories,” says Amanda Piper, marketing director, Pepsico. “With their knowledge of pop culture trends, we are confident they will help us enhance the lifestyle aspects of the Cap’n Crunch brand with our target consumer,” he added.

Through the partnership, the brand consultancy agency will bring Cap’n Crunch into such categories as apparel, accessories, collectibles and a variety of consumables.

The appointment also comes after a successful collaboration between Cap’n Crunch and street wear brand Kith last year, which included a whole lot of lifestyle products and pop-up shops.

“We are thrilled to extend our relationship with PepsiCo and represent such a well-known, relevant and iconic cereal brand loved by millions of consumers,” said Ross Misher, chief executive officer, Brand Central. “Cereal brands are very on-trend right now at retail and we look forward to partnering with companies for delicious food extensions and fashion forward products and collaborations,” he added.

 

Second annual edition of Kidtropolis in October

The second annual Kidtropolis will welcome a host of licensed brands ranging from Peppa Pig to The Next Step and more. It is a family event for parents and children from the age of 12 and under.

Kidtropolis, that would take place between October 23 to 26 at London’s ExCeL will celebrate childhood brands with a host of live shows, activities and more.

Brands that will host a live show during the annual event include The Basil Brush Show, Flawless, The Next Step, Peppa Pig, Captain Calamity, Kidz Bop, Sylvanian Families, Marvin’s Magic, Octonauts, Naomi’s Wild & Scary, Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, The Bolds and Sooty.

In addition, companies such as Playmobil, Rainbow and Terra Tech among many others will host a variety of activities for children.

 

Barnes & Noble to continue with pop culture this year too

Barnes & Noble is continuing its annual celebration of pop culture and its fans with Get Pop-Cultured.

“Get Pop-Cultured with Barnes & Noble has always been one of our most highly anticipated events of the year, and this year, we’re giving fans a celebration of pop culture with special offers in all stores throughout July, culminating with an exclusive cosplay event at select stores and a superhero storytime at all stores,” says Mary Amicucci, chief merchandising officer, Barnes & Noble.

“Cosplay has quickly become a customer favorite that brings characters from stories to life, and we are looking forward to bringing this excitement to our stores again this summer,” she added.

This year’s celebration will feature a host of events and promotions that would highlight some of today’s leading properties in pop culture including Marvel, Manga, DC, Harry Potter, Tokidoki among many other.

Throughout the month-long event, Barnes & Noble customers will also be invited to experience a number of events and promotions including photo ops, never-before-seen merchandise, special offers, giveaways and more.

In addition, on July 29, the retailer will host a cosplay event which will include a how to workshop for novice cosplayers, a cosplay parade and a costume showcase.

Get Pop-Cultured with Barnes & Noble was established way back in 2014 to bring customers’ favourite books, characters, movies, artists, illustrators and pop-culture icons to life. This year’s event will run till July 29.

 

HarperCollins Children’s Books ties up with Little Troopers charity

HarperCollins Children’s Books has partnered with Little Troopers charity to launch a new Little Troopers Treasures app.

Louise Fetigan, founder of the Little Troopers charity, said, “I am so pleased that we can offer this app to our British Armed Forces families. Night time is always hard when parents are away as the children often ask for mummy or daddy at bedtime It will be so lovely for them to see a video and hear their voice through a special story.”

“The content supplied by HarperCollins Children’s Books and a generous donation from ABF Soldier’s charity have enabled us to launch this resource that will have such a positive impact on all the Little troopers who have parents serving away.”

The app has been designed to help military parents to stay connected with their families through a series of stories while they are away from home.

Supported by ABF, the Soldier’s Charity, the app allows serving military parents to choose a book for their child and record a video reading synchronised to the pages turning.

Supported by HarperCollins Children’s Books, the app will feature a range of popular children’s ebooks including Judith Kerr’s Mog books, Michael Bond’s Paddington adventures from Emma Chichester-Clark’s Blue Kangarooo as well as stories from Bing.

Parents serving in the British Armed Forces can be away from home for up to nine months of the year with many children experiencing repeated and sometimes concurrent separation.

Executive publisher of HarperCollins Children’s Books, Ann-Janine Murtagh, added, “We are immensely proud to partner with Little Troopers on this wonderful project which will allow children to connect with their parents and to enjoy the magic of a story even when they are separated.”

Licensing Expo China to host its first China Licensing Awards

The Licensing Expo China will be held in Shanghai between July 18 to 20 this year when the expo floor will have more than 230 brands and licensing properties from animation, apparel, art and culture to food, games, entertainment and lifestyle brands.

And, for the first time ever, the Expo will host China Licensing Awards that would reflect the growth of the market in the East.

Among the many exhibitors heading to Shanghai next month will be Alpha Animation Brand Management, Angry Birds, Paul Frank, The Simpsons, the British Musuem, BBC Earth among many others.

The ceremony will recognise the achievements of outstanding brands and licensing properties in the industry. Organised by UBM, the inaugural event will be sponsored by LIMA.

“Licensing Expo China is the only trade show that LIMA sponsors in mainland China. UBM’s knowledge of the licensing industry and expertise in delivering top-notch licensing trade shows is unmatched by any other show organiser,” said Charles M. Riotto, president, International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association.

Award winners will be announced on July 18th across categories such as Best China Property of the Year, Best Licensing Promotion of the Year, Best Corporate Brand/Fashion. Lifestyle Program of the Year, Best Location-Based Experiential Initiative of the Year, Best Licensee of the Year and Best Retailer of the Year.

Food Network taps Hannah Hart for new series

The Food Network has partnered with social media influencer Hannah Hart to start with a new six-episode series titled I Hart Food.

“Food Network has been an incredible partner and I’m really proud of the show we made together,” says Hart, who also served as an executive producer for the series.

“I am so excited to share the experiences of extra-ordinary meals and the chefs who shared their passions and expertise with me on ‘I Hart Food.’ I’m a major food enthusiast and this show is perfect for those who have an insatiable appetite for all things food,” she added.

The new series will see Hart follow her appetite to discover local dishes throughout the U.S. and uncover the stories behind them.

For this, Hart will visit Santa Fe, N.M. in the premiere episode and will explore Asheville, N.C.; Portland, Maine; Eugene, Ore.; Minneapolis, Minn.; and Missoula, Mont. The series will premiere on the Food Network on August 14.

Hart is the creator and star of the weekly web series My Drunk Kitchen and has gathered more than 5 million followers on social media.

She is also the author of My Drunk Kitchen: A Guide to Eating, Drinking and Going with Your Gut and Buffered: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded.

Australia and New Zealand set to feature BBC Earth Brand on a number of stamps and calendars

Australia and New Zealand have partnered with the Australia Post and Browntrout Publishers to feature the BBC Earth brand on a number of stamps and calendars.

The new stamp collection will showcase a number of fauna imagery from the natural history unit in a special collector’s package. The stamp pack is currently available at Australian Post Offices as well as online.

Meanwhile, Browntrout Publishers will launch a new 2018 square wall calendar featuring an array of images that reflect BBC Earth’s natural history archive. The calendar will be available in both Australia and New Zealand.

 

50th anniversary of Apollo 8 and 11 missions to be commemorated

2018 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission, which was the first manned mission to leave Earth’s orbit as well as head to and circumnavigate the moon over Christmas, December 1968.

 

With regards to the same, Licensing Management International and the International Space Archives have decided to commemorate the occasion with a host of new merchandise next year.

The International Space Archives is a digital library of mission patches, photos, films and videos from sources including NASA and the international space programmes of Russia, Japan, China, India and the European Union.

To gear up for the Apollo missions’ milestone anniversaries, the agency has tapped New Era Caps in South Korea to create a line of headwear using the ISA mission patches artwork. The line will be available in other New Era Caps territories including New Era Japan.

About Blank, also in South Korea, has also signed on to launch a line of apparel and accessories including jackets, t-shirts, caps, beanies and gloves.

Meanwhile, 2019 will be celebrated as the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission which saw the first man land on the moon in July 1969.
