Centum Books shows unique performance in UK

Thanks to its latest title with JoJo Siwa, Centum Books is celebrating a great performance in the UK children’s book chart.

For the fourth consecutive week, the JoJo Siwa Journal has maintained a top ten position, making it the top selling licensed character book in the UK.

Fiona Macmillan, Managing director of Centum Books said, “We are really pleased with the launch of our official JoJo Siwa Journal which has mirrored the hype surrounding JoJo at present.”

“The sales across all channels have seen amazing results with a further three re-prints already sold out. We are also extending the JoJo publishing programme with further products including a Gift Set, Sticker and Annual due to be launched very soon.”

“JoJo Siwa is set to be one of the top children’s licences in the UK this year and we have been working closely in partnership with the Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products team to maximise the opportunity,” Fiona continued.

Marianne James, vice president, commercial partnerships, consumer products and experiences, Nickelodeon UK and Ireland, added, “JoJo Siwa is proving to be a superstar and we are seeing licence opportunities across all categories.

“Centum are one of the first of our partners to go to market with a JoJo Siwa line and we are so pleased to see just how well the range has been performing.”

The JoJo Tin of Bows and Mega Sticker Book will be launching next month, with the Annual due in November and new formats coming early next year.

JoJo will be visiting the UK next month as she performs as part of the sold out Nickelodeon Slimefest, taking place at The Arena, Blackpool Pleasure Beach from October 21-23.

 

Samsung introduces new tablet coinciding with the arrival of The LEGO Ninjago Movie

The Samsung Kids Galaxy Tablet 7.0 – The LEGO Ninjago Movie Edition comes packed with content for any LEGO fan as well as a bundle of features.

Three months of free limited access to Samsung Kids is included along with a $99 of premium content that is already installed.

A durable case is also included, which boasts of a movie-themed design. An eight hours of battery life promises long-lasting play.

 

Jakks Pacific teams up with Disney Pixar for launch of new toys

 

Jakks Pacific has teamed up with Disney Pixar for the launch of new toys based on the upcoming film The Incredibles 2.

As part of the global master toy deal, Jakks will manufacturer, market and distribute action figures, accessories, play-sets, interactive toys, pre-school toys, role-play and dress-up items and more.

“We’re thrilled to extend our relationship with Disney and be named the master toy licensee for The Incredibles franchise,” commented Stephen Berman, chairman and CEO at Jakks Pacific.

“We are looking forward to working with the remarkable storytellers at Pixar and Disney, to bring The Incredibles characters to life through a variety of toys and other consumer products for a new generation of kids,” he added.

The sequel to The Incredibles is slated for release in June 2018.

Imprint signs on to publish a series of novels based on Nelvana’s Mysticons

Imprint, a division of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group has taken upon itself to publish a series of novels based on Nelvana’s Mysticons.

The fantasy series created by the Corus Entertainment-owned company recently debuted in North America and is the number-one fall program on Corus’ YTV network.

The exclusive agreement will kick off in June 2018 and will feature novelizations of existing episodes and original middle-grade novels inspired by the series.

The first two titles namely Quest for Codex and The Fifth Mysticon will follow the Mysticons as they transform into legendary warriors and work together to defeat evil.

Macmillan joins a growing roster of licensees for the brand which includes Playmates Toys, Dark Horse Comics and Topps Company.

 

Moose Toys on an expansion spree

With a number of licensing deals and renewals, Moose Toys’ collectable toy brand is expanding into new categories.

This is following the announcement of partnerships with globally recognized brands including, Pez, Build-a-Bear Workshop, Skechers and the launch of the Shopkins Live touring show.

“It’s a thrill for us to continue to work with these top-tier licensees who are leaders in their industries. We have big plans for 2018 and 2019 and we’re excited to build upon the success we have experienced over the last few years,” said an excited Nicole Hardiman, head of global licensing of Moose Toys.

There are now over 1,000 characters to collect in the Shopkins collection, 70 webisodes to watch and in 2016 alone, the brand recorded $1 billion in retail sales across consumer products.

Licensees from all key categories include publishing (Scholastic and Little Bee), apparel (Bentex and Hybrid), Bicycles (Dynacraft) and bedding (Jay Franco) are lining up to renew their partnership agreements as the Shopkins brand continues evolving from a toy property into a cross-category franchise.

Shopkins now has over 220 licensees and 18 agents supporting the growth of the brand globally.

 

Under-17 World Cup soccer expected to benefit the sector

India’s sports licensing industry is banking heavily on the upcoming Under-17 World Cup as the mega event is expected to benefit the sector by increasing and consolidating the soccer fan base providing more opportunity to exploit brands, it is being said.

Said License India Chairman Gaurav Marya, “Usually, it is during our school and college days that we are associated with sports. But most people remain in touch with sports by watching television coverage of national and international events.

“The Under-17 World Cup will bring the right spectators and trigger sporting activities at the school level in a bigger way. Such an enabling ecosystem will surely translate into more licensing opportunties,”

The Indian Super League (ISL) will start after the World Cup tyhat will go on between October 6 to 28 ends ensuring five to six months of soccer action in the country.

 

Gaiam joins forces with actress Jessica Biel

Gaiam has joined forces with actress Jessica Biel to develop the brand’s first-ever collaboration that will include a capsule collection co-designed by Biel.

Sequential Brands Group, which owns the Gaiam brand, brokered the deal.

The Jessica Biel Signature Collection will feature an assortment of active wear and yoga accessories including capris, leggings, tops and jackets.

“Jessica Biel is the perfect ambassador for the Gaiam brand. She is a wife, mom, actress and activist who is passionate about health and fitness and works hard to maintain a balanced lifestyle,” said Eddie Esses, president, active, Sequential.

“Through this partnership, we have an incredible opportunity to showcase the Gaiam brand and further expand its awareness,” he added.

Gaiam’s first campaign with Biel is scheduled to debut in spring 2018, with the first products from the collection slated to hit retailers in fall 2018.

Laura Ashley teams up with MerchSource

Laura Ashley has teamed up with MerchSource to create a line of home gifts for the fashion and home furnishings brand.

The company is a Welsh textile design company now controlled by the MUI Group of Malaysia. It was founded by Bernard Ashley, an engineer and his wife Laura Ashley in 1953.

The initial product launch will include items such as jewellery holders, trinket trays, flameless candles and other decorative items for home and personal use.

Laura Ashley Gifts for Her will launch at select retailers next month.

 

Primark continues with its licensed offering for all ages

Primark, the Licensing award winner, is continuing to bolster its licensed offering across all age groups introducing new additions to its Disney Baby collection.

The retailer, which won Best Retailer of Adult Licensed Products at The Licensing Awards earlier this month, showcased new ranges featuring Bambi, Winnie the Pooh and Marie from The Aristocats on its popular blog.

The additions include sleep suits with hats, baby grows and bibs, a Bambi peplum outfit, a muslin three-pack, character blankets, character comforters and a dungaree set.
