NBA and Panini extend their multi-year partnership

NBA and Panini have extended their exclusive multi-year partnership with the latter continuing to manufacture official trading cards and stickers for the NBA along with its stable of other sports brands including like  NFL, NFLPA, MLBPA, NASCAR, FIFA World Cup and more than 300 colleges.

“Panini America has grown the traditional trading card market both domestically and internationally, continuing to deliver industry-leading innovation, product development, and marketing initiatives,” said Sal LaRocca, NBA president, global partnerships.

“Together, the NBA and Panini remain committed to offering Panini’s premium NBA trading card offerings to fans around the world.”

The exclusive partnership was first established in 2009 and has seen Panini Group’s U.S. subsidiary, Panini America manage the partnership.

“We’re honored that the NBA has entrusted us to be its exclusive trading card manufacturer for the last seven years, and this extension is a pivotal part of our exciting future,” observed Mark Warsop, CEO of Panini America.

“The NBA is a vital, vibrant part of our company and we look forward to a long, prosperous future,” he concluded.

 

 

Nickelodeon to take SpongeBob SquarePants to Broadway this fall

Nickelodeon, along with The Araca Group, Sony Music Masterworks and Kelp on the Road, will launch the musical SpongeBob SquarePants at The Palace Theater, Broadway this fall.

The SpongeBob SquarePants musical will see SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. As chaos erupts and when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero will rise up and take center stage to save the day.

“We could not be more thrilled to bring Nickelodeon’s iconic ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ to the theater in an original musical conceived specifically for Broadway,” says Cyma Zarghami, president, Nickelodeon Group. “We are also incredibly honored to be in such a gorgeous house as The Palace, where audiences will be immersed in the fun and surprising world of Bikini Bottom,” she concluded.

The musical will feature original songs by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, and T.I., among many others. It will also feature a song by David Bowie.

Preview performances of ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ will begin on November 6 with the official opening slated for December 4.

 

Universal Studios plans new theme park attractions

Inspired by DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda, Hello Kitty, Harry Potter, the Margaritaville brand and other entertainment properties, Universal Studios Hollywood has planned to introduce a slate of new theme park attractions, characters and Universal CityWalk establishments.

Following its recent acquisition of DreamWorks Animation, Universal will roll out a never-before-seen DreamWorks Theatre. To be thrown open in 2018, the new venue will host a variety of DreamWorks-themed attractions, beginning with a multi-sensory adventure inspired by Kung Fu Panda.

A number of DreamWorks’ characters will also join the theme park beginning this summer. New characters include Kung Fu Panda’s Po and Tigress; Madagascar’s Alex the Lion, The Penguins and King Julian; Trolls’ Poppy and Brand and Shrek’s Puss ‘n Boots.

Sanrio’s Hello Kitty will also appear for costume character appearances and meet-and-greet the guests. The popular characters, as well as other Sanrio characters including My Melody, Keroppi and Chococat will also feature on park-exclusive merchandise such as apparel, accessories, collectibles and confectionery.

Meanwhile, the holiday-themed program ‘Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ will return to the theme park for the second year in a row.

The annual event will see festive décor themed to each of the individual storefronts in Hogsmeade village as well as holiday-themed food and beverages. At nightfall, the Hogwarts castle will be illuminated with a light projection show accompanied by a musical arrangement from the Harry Potter films.

Hasbro unveils whole range of products before the release of Transformers: The Last Knight

With the release of Transformers: The Last Knight round the corner (June 23), Hasbro has unveiled a whole range of new product for fans to bring the adventures on the big screen into their homes.
The Transformers: The Last Knight premier edition deluxe figure assortment features a lineup of highly articulated, 5.5-inch-scale figures of fan-favourite Autobot and Decepticon characters.

One of the latest figures in the premier edition deluxe figure assortment is the Autobot Cogman, with series antagonists Megatron and Skullitron also joining in.

In the explosive Transformers: The Last Knight movie, new heroes must rise in an epic struggle to forge a future for all.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announces home video release of DC Super Girls and Peanuts…

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has brought together two of the world’s most recognizable brands in DC and LEGO for their first combined DC Super Hero Girls production.

It will release the home video of the all-new animated film Lego DC Super Hero Girls: Brain Drain on Digital HD (July 25) and on August 8 (DVD).

 “Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is excited to unite two extremely popular brands — LEGO and DC Entertainment — to present the first ever LEGO DC Super Hero Girls film,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing.

“Animated feature-length movies featuring DC Super Hero Girls and LEGO are extremely popular amongst our fans, so we look forward to bringing this first collaboration to life,” she added.

The DC Super Hero Girls franchise aims to empower and connect with young girls through the brand’s vast digital content networks across LEGO.com, DCSuperHeroGirls.com, YouTube and social media.

Another release coming from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be of Peanuts by Schulz: School Days that would be available on DVD on August 29. This release would include 19 entertaining shorts based on the legendary print comic strip created by Charles Schulz.

“This new collection of Peanuts short cartoons revolves around the classic school theme and will appeal to viewers of all ages,” said Thomas. “This beautiful new series is a celebration of Charles Schulz’s beloved original comic strip. It’s comprised of animated vignettes derived directly from his newspaper strips. We are delighted to offer this entertaining new release to consumers,” she concluded.

Beano Studios asks Studio Press to publish articles based on iconic teen magazine Jackie

Beano Studios has asked Studio Press, an imprint of Kings Road Publishing to publish a number of titles based on Jackie, the iconic U.K. teen magazine from the 1970s and ’80s.

Jackie was the magazine for generations of young women. As such, it holds a special place in so many people’s hearts,” says Helen Wicks, creative director, Kings Road Publishing.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this much-loved, iconic brand to Kings Road Publishing. Working with DC Thomson, we plan to create a range of books that will combine nostalgic appeal with a very modern twist. Together, we will provide Jackie fans with new, relevant and witty content alongside heartfelt and hilarious reminders of their youth.”

By way of the partnership, Kings Road Publishing’s dedicated trends imprint and Beano Studios will work together to create a number of non-fiction publications under the DC Thomson brand.

The new titles will aim to offer the best of Jackies heritage including the Cathy and Claire problem page and its Photo Love Stories.

The first title is set to be published in 2018.

Jackie, a weekly British magazine for teen girls, launched in 1964 and ran for 29 years until 1993. During its run, the publication became the best-selling teen magazine in Britain.

Brand owner and creator Charlotte Reed has appointed Larkshead Media to manage global licensing for ‘May The Thoughts Be With You’, the delightful new property that combines thoughtful, positive and funny messages with witty cartoons in what has become an unlikely publishing success.

‘May The Thoughts Be With You’ is loved for its optimism and positive outlook. But it began life as a response to something that wasn’t positive at all: a debilitating bout of depression that Charlotte Reed suffered in 2008.

To aid her recovery, Charlotte posted upbeat thoughts on her Facebook page, thoughts that her friends liked and that, over time, inspired illustrations, characters, and finally a book that Charlotte sold from a stall in London’s Portobello market.

Her book’s winning combination of humour, honesty and cheerfulness gained Charlotte an audience and her book became a self-publishing success, attracting visitors from many countries to Charlotte’s stall.

It also attracted the attention of Hay House Publishing, which offered her a global book deal. ‘May The Thoughts Be With You’ has now become a hit in both English-language and translated editions across a number of countries.

SaysCharlotte,  “It’s extraordinary that a simple but heartfelt response to one of the lowest points in my life has developed into something that has touched so many people. I’m so excited to be starting this licensing journey and looking forward immensely to bringing the ideas and imagery of May The Thoughts Be With You to an even bigger audience.”

In the light of this success a few people suggested that the appealing messages, arresting imagery and amusing characters like the Shoeless Guru, Betty and her clever cat and the Happy Hippy could be ideal for a licensing programme. They were not alone. ‘May The Thoughts Be With You’ was presented at Licence This!, the annual competition at BLE designed to introduce new properties to licensing.

It not only got the judges’ approval but won first prize — and gained the support of Larkshead, which is now building a licensing programme for the property.

The programme will be introduced at BLE on the May The Thoughts Be With You stand number J14 in October.

It’s quite a jump from Facebook and self-publishing to translated editions and a licensing deal. But Charlotte isn’t letting success go to her head.

Barajoun Entertainment appoints Copyright Licensing Agency as licensing agent for its animated film Bilal

Barajoun Entertainment has appointed Copyright Licensing Agency to serve as the exclusive global licensing agent for the upcoming animated film, Bilal: A New Breed of Hero, which made its debut on the big screen across the MENA region in September 2016. The film that was released in Turkey on 26 May is set to launch globally in Fall 2017.

Under the terms of the agreement, Copyright Licensing will now work to optimize the management of the licensing program and secure a number of worldwide agents and licensing partners to create an array of products.

The licensing program will encompasses the film and spans multiple categories including toys, collectibles, apparel, accessories, novelties, stationery, publishing, promotions, digital, interactive games and live events.

The original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts tells the story of a diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers uniting to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific.

Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong and they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.
