Seltzer named food and beverage licensing agent for ‘MasterChef’

Seltzer Licensing Group has been appointed by the Endemol Shine North to serve as the exclusive food and beverage licensing agent for the “MasterChef” and “MasterChef Junior” brands in North America.

As per the agreement, Seltzer Licensing focus on key categories such as cooking kits, baking mixes and spices during the initial days. Later, the company plans to expand into subscription meal services, food tours and cooking classes.

Commenting on the association, Stu Seltzer, president, Seltzer Licensing Group said, “The ‘MasterChef’ brand has clearly established its food credentials, and now we’ll be extending this trusted brand into the food and beverage space.”

Additionally, the “MasterChef” brand is currently entering its ninth season and continues to grow its licensing program. The brand currently claims partners across cookware, publishing, toys and experiential events.

From Woody to Rex: Disney opens Toy Story Land at Shanghai Theme Park

The Shanghai Disney Resort opened ‘Disney·Pixar Toy Story Land’, which is seventh themed t Shanghai Disneyland. It is the first major expansion of the theme park since it opened in June 2016.

Full of oversized toys, new adventures, colorful sights, the land features three new attractions – Slinky Dog Spin, Rex’s Racer, and Woody’s Roundup. It also includes a themed character greeting area, Meeting Post, and shopping and dining experiences, Al’s Toy Barn and Toy Box Café.

FFI Holdings acquires UK’s leading film distributor Signature Entertainment

FFI Holdings PLC, the holding company of Film Finances, the world leader in the provision of completion contracts to the entertainment industry for films, television, mini-series and streaming product, announced that it has acquired Signature Entertainment UK, one of the largest distributors of films in the UK.

Founded in 2011, Signature has released over 600 titles and established itself as a leading distributor of diverse entertainment titles to a broad UK audience in cinemas and at home. The company has a wealth of industry experience and acts as an aggregator for Netflix, Amazon Prime and Sky as well as other streaming services.

Reliance Brands in talks with top Indian designers, keen to invest in business

Reliance Brands, which is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, is said to have contacted half a dozen Indian designers for a potential stake in their businesses, according to a report in the Economic Times.

Reliance Brands sells luxury labels such as Ermenegildo Zegna, Bally and Brooks Brothers in India.

If the report is to be believed, Reliance Brands have reached out to Raghavendra Rathore, Rajesh Pratap Singh among other designers to explore the possibility of investing in their businesses.

However, no official confirmation has come out yet.

“There has been some mutual exchange of ideas with a few parties that we could align with — as you may appreciate, this is an ongoing process and if we align our thoughts with a common vision, and if all stakeholders see the value in that, only then, can one proceed to discussing such possibilities,” said Rathore was quoted from ET.

Rathore asserted that they would be open to seeking external investment, in the same way they did for the Gurukul School of Design, that we have set up in Jaipur.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Rajesh Pratap Singh confirmed to ET being approached by Reliance Brands, but said it was a long time ago.

In September last year, Reliance bought L Catterton Asia’s 40% stake in Genesis Luxury. It had also inked a deal in June last year with Italian brand Valentino to bring the brand to India.

Soon, ‘Fast and Furious’ animated series coming to Netflix

In what can be termed as good news for the ‘Fast and Furious’ fans, the studio has announced plans to produce animated series on the action franchise at Netflix, with DreamWorks behind the brand-new venture.

The Fast and the Furious is an American franchise based on a series of action films that is largely concerned with illegal street racing, heists and espionage.

The plot will follow a new character Tony Toretto – the cousin of Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto, the character played by franchise star Vin Diesel across seven of the eight films. Recruited by the government to infiltrate an elite racing league, Tony and his friends are tasked with taking down the criminal organization that uses the league as a front for its operations.

Melissa Cobb of Netflix was quoted from the Radio Times: “The ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise is a global phenomenon beloved by audiences of all ages, and we can’t wait to get started on the new animated series that will capture the action, heart, humor and global appeal of the feature films.”

Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz and Chris Morgan will be executive producers of the series. Tim Hedrick (Voltron Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien) also serving as executive producers and showrunners.

DreamWorks also released a promotional image from the series to announce the series.

“We are excited to extend and expand our successful relationship with Netflix by not only delivering more high-quality DreamWorks programming, but connecting fans of Universal films with fascinating new stories,” Margie Cohn, president of DreamWorks Animation Television was quoted as saying in Variety.

“Our new home at Universal marks an exciting new chapter for storytelling at our studio, and Fast & Furious is only the beginning,” Margie further stated.  

The eight films in the Fast and Furious franchise have earned more than USD 5 billion worldwide.

Currently, the ninth installment of the film is due to be released in April 2020, with the tenth movie scheduled to follow in April 2021.

BBC Studios signs content sharing agreement with HOOQ India

BBC Studios and HOOQ India announced a content deal that will give Indian viewers access to nearly 200 hours of top BBC drama including Luther, Maigret and Wolf Hall.

The announcement was made on the first day of the Asia Pay TV Operators Summit (APOS) in Indonesia.

With this deal, HOOQ subscribers in India will now have access to award-winning British dramas including BBC’s award-winning crime drama Luther, and Maigret among others.

“We have seen increasing interest in premium British dramas in India, and are very pleased to be working with HOOQ to deliver quality British drama to meet this demand. We are confident that the programmes will be well-received by HOOQ’s subscribers,” said Myleeta Aga, SVP and GM of South and South-East Asia, BBC Studios.

Luther is a psychological thriller driven by an intellectually brilliant but emotionally impulsive cop John Luther (Idris Elba)
